Play Therapy
Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate approach for children who don't yet have the language skills to process emotions through talk therapy alone. Using toys, art, and structured play, a trained clinician helps children express feelings, work through difficult experiences, and build coping skills in a way that feels natural to them.
At Calm Clarity Therapy, our clinicians use play therapy with children navigating anxiety, behavioral concerns, family transitions, and other emotional challenges that are easier to show through play than to explain in words.
How Play Therapy Works
Play therapy sessions are structured around the child's developmental needs:
- Building rapport — the clinician creates a safe, consistent space where the child feels comfortable engaging.
- Observation — through play, the clinician gains insight into the child's inner world, worries, and coping patterns.
- Guided or child-led play — depending on the child's needs, sessions may follow the child's lead or incorporate more structured therapeutic activities.
- Skill-building — coping strategies, emotional vocabulary, and problem-solving skills are introduced through play-based activities.
- Parent collaboration — caregivers are often included in check-ins to reinforce progress at home.
