When You've Tried and It Hasn't Been Enough

A green underline.

Many people start an antidepressant, give it time, try another, and still find that depression shapes most of their days. When depression hasn't improved enough after trying at least two antidepressants, clinicians often call it treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The name can sound discouraging, but it describes your history with treatment so far. It can also be a reason to take a fresh, careful look at your care.

At Calm Clarity Therapy, our PMHNP-BC providers and therapists work together to review what you've tried and which options may be worth considering next. We see patients in Denver, Lakewood, and across Colorado by telehealth.

If you are in a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 in an emergency.

Integrated Care for Treatment-Resistant Depression

Medication Review & Management: Our PMHNP-BC providers look at your full history: which medications you've taken, at what doses, for how long, and what side effects you noticed. Sometimes the next step is adjusting a current plan, and sometimes it's trying a different approach.

Spravato® (Esketamine) Treatment: For adults who qualify, Lisa DeMay, PMHNP-BC, offers Spravato®, an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression, at our certified Denver office. Care starts with a Spravato Consult.

Individual Therapy: Therapy offers steady support alongside medication. Our therapists use approaches like CBT and ACT to help you build routines, manage low energy, and stay connected to what matters to you.

What We Look At Together

A green underline.
  • Your treatment history: What you've tried, what helped a little, and what didn't, including any reasons a medication was stopped.
  • The fuller picture: Sleep, physical health, substance use, and ongoing stress can all play a role in how depression feels day to day.
  • Other conditions: Sometimes anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, or trauma is also part of the picture, which can change which options make sense.

Common Questions

A green underline.
  • What counts as treatment-resistant depression?

Clinicians generally use the term when depression hasn't improved enough after trying at least two antidepressants at an adequate dose and for long enough. Only a provider can assess whether it applies to you, and that conversation is a good starting point for reviewing your options.

  • Is Spravato my only option?

No. Spravato is one option for adults who qualify. Other paths may include changes to your medication, adding therapy, or a combination. Our providers help you weigh what fits your history and health.

  • Can I come to Calm Clarity just for Spravato?

Yes. After a Spravato Consult with Lisa, you can receive Spravato at our Denver office while keeping your therapy and medication management with your current providers. With your consent, we'll coordinate with them.

  • Is this covered by insurance?

Medication management and therapy are in-network with most major insurance plans. Spravato is currently available with Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid) and Aetna, and our intake team handles prior authorization.
