Hanna Piilola, Social Work Intern

Hanna Piilola is a Master of Social Work (MSW) candidate at the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work. She is passionate about providing compassionate, client-centered therapy that honors each person’s unique lived experiences, strengths, and resilience. Hanna believes therapy should be a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to better understand themselves and move toward meaningful change.

Hanna takes a trauma-informed, relational approach to therapy that is collaborative and grounded in the importance of human connection. She strives to offer an affirming and inclusive space where all aspects of a client’s identity are welcomed and honored. Her approach is integrative and may draw from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, and other evidence-based modalities, thoughtfully adjusted to best fit each client’s needs, goals, and preferences. Her work is grounded in the understanding that everyone's lived experiences shape how they navigate life and its challenges, and she collaborates with clients to build skills that support healthy emotional regulation and deeper self-understanding. She supports individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationship conflicts, and building healthy emotional regulation skills.

Hanna brings experience from school-based and community settings supporting children, adolescents, and families, which informs her strengths-based and collaborative approach to therapy. She has experience working with children, families, parents, and caregivers and is excited to continue working with these populations while expanding her experience with adolescents, young adults, and couples. She helps clients reconnect with themselves and build lives that feel aligned with their values. Hanna welcomes clients who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply curious about therapy, and she believes meaningful change begins with feeling deeply seen and understood.
